Designer Yasutake Ikeshiro

Yasutake Ikeshiro, the representative of Ichigusuku Mode, creates clothing inspired by the island's nature and culture. The OORITOORI website logo was also designed by Ikeshiro, and his posters and signs can be seen all over the island, demonstrating his wide range of activities.

Torinji Temple and Gongendo, the oldest temples in Yaeyama, are very close to his home and were his playground when he was little, where he would come to catch cicadas. He says he thought the stone walls and Nio statues were cool even as a child. "I also like the road that stretches straight ahead when you look south from the main hall of Gongendo. I always imagine what it was like when the sea was just beyond this single road before the land reclamation was completed."

A brave Nio statue. It is the oldest existing wooden statue in the prefecture.

This stone monument was erected to commemorate the change in traffic direction from right-hand to left-hand on July 30, 1978, after Okinawa's return to Japan. "The logo is cool, and ever since I was a child, I've thought of this place as the heart of the island. I'm happy to be able to open a shop here." Ichigusuku Mode 730 Intersection Store is located next to the monument to the east.

At Oasis, run by a couple who are classmates of Mr. Ikeshiro, you can enjoy Yaeyama soba and set meals. Mr. Ikeshiro loves the soki soba there and eats it at least once a week. "The tender, soft-bone soki is really delicious. I also recommend the soki curry."

She used to jog around the park all the time, but when she took the path that led into the forest, she felt closer to the lush greenery and it became her favorite route. This route allows you to return to the original path in about 10 minutes. Climb the stairs opposite the parking lot just inside the west entrance of the park.

There are many small paths within the park that lead into the forest.

Banna Park

Approximately 5 minutes by car

Mount Omoto is the highest mountain in Okinawa Prefecture. This view is from the migratory bird observation post in Banna Park. The owner apparently comes here occasionally because he likes to gaze at the mountain range stretching out along the ridge, including Mount Fukai Omoto.
