Wedding producer Kimiyo Nomura
Kimiyo works as a wedding producer, handling a wide range of events from large, unique island-style receptions to resort weddings. We asked her about a place she often goes to with her elementary school-aged daughter on her days off.
This is her favorite cafe, where she often comes for tea. "The ginger lily tea is delicious. Also, I really love the juicy here. The scent of pipachi and the ginger lily leaves it's wrapped in is wonderful. I also really like the atmosphere of the cafe." Juicy is a type of mixed rice dish, and pipachi is an island pepper with a cinnamon-like scent.

Kimiyo, whose grandparents are from Shiraho, says she often came to the Shiraho sea when she was a child. "I love just relaxing by the sea here."

Apparently, the only thing you should order here is the spicy miso vegetable soba. "It's really delicious. I love Yaeyama soba, but I also love spicy food, and it's even better when I add a lot of chili peppers."

This is a smoothie and frozen fruit shop. Today I ordered a mix of mango, pineapple, shikwasa, and sugarcane. "The fresh fruit tastes so good, it's invigorating!"

Just south of Yashima Elementary School is a breakwater adorned with charming murals, where many islanders relax or come to fish. "On days when the sunset is beautiful, I sit on the breakwater and watch it," one person commented.
