Sisters Kazuna Kawai and Miwako Kaneku run a fruit parlor.
Kazuna and Miwako run the parlor "FARM&CAFE Kourakuen," where they make juices, frappés, and baked goods using tropical fruits from the island. They also own a field where they cultivate guava and dragon fruit. Where do these close sisters, who love to go out, go on their days off?
The observation deck inside the airport offers a panoramic view of the runway, nearby mountains, and the sea on the east side of the island. Miwako loves airplanes and enjoys watching planes take off and land, as well as the vehicles working around them. "Sometimes I just sit there for an hour or so, sipping coffee and gazing at the scenery (laughs)."

I love the view from this gazebo, which overlooks both the sea and the mountains, and the lush green of the grassland is so refreshing. "Sometimes I bring a packed lunch and enjoy a leisurely meal here." It's located just after crossing the bridge, following the single path from the west entrance of the park.

This parking area is located on the opposite shore of Kabira Bay, along the road that circles the bay. The owner says that whenever they drive past here, they always stop to admire the view. "I love the contrast between Kabira Bay and the pastureland."

The view from Yarabu-dake on the Sakieda Peninsula is very beautiful, and it's one of Miwako's favorites. "I love the color of the sea when I see it from the mountain."

I arrived at this spot after searching for a place without streetlights or houses nearby, where I wouldn't be disturbed by light. My friend said that whenever she comes to visit from the mainland, she always takes her to see the starry sky, and that "everyone is incredibly moved." If you take the road from the north side of the peninsula and go past Sakieda Elementary and Junior High School, there is a place where you can easily park your car about 2 or 3 minutes away by car.

After graduating from Yaeko High School, she studied at a culinary school in Tokyo and worked at a cafe. In 2011, she returned to the island and started FARM&CAFE Kourakuen, wanting to create a shop that would make use of her parents' orchard.
Miwako Kaneku (right)
After working at cafes in Tokyo, she returned to the island and joined Kōrakuen, which Wakana had just started. At Kōrakuen, she is in charge of juices and smoothies.
